‘Alternative Outside’ is a thesis body of work for my BFA in Textile Design which looks at what products bring people outside and how to recreate them in a more slow fashion and planet friendly approach

The following explores the use of mostly hemp, and other cellulosic fibers that were hand dyed using low impact dyes and all attachments are either upcyced from damaged goods or USA made recycled metals and all products are created from self made patterns.

  • A hemp jacket with a hemp blend fleece lining and pocket linings - to keep you warm on your outdoor adventure

  • An up-right reading hammock from hemp canvas, upcycled cotton scraps, and recycled metals - to encourage a journey to the perfect set of trees

  • A convertible blanket bag made from hand woven cotton with an undyed warp and space dyed weft, folds into itself with a single button attachment and a on optional loop-in strap - to bring on a hike or to the beach

  • And some hand braided hemp sandals. A labor of love, each sole is hand braided waxed hemp rope, spiraled on its side and hand stitched across to create a flexible sole that molds with your each step - keeping the wearer closer with the earth and keeping the commonly shredded microplastics further from it.
